Volunteer Stewardship Day - Saturday, Jul 19, 2008 - 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Roll up your sleeves and join the Natural Resources Group, GreenApple Corps, and Partnerships for Parks to help maintain Canarsie, Kissena, Ferry Point, and Four Sparrow Marsh. We will be weeding, watering, and applying composting mulch to the planted areas.

A Solar-Powered Dance Series-
July 24th-26th & July 31st-August 2nd This summer marks the 4th season of the Solar-Powered Dance Series in Stuyvesant Cove Park. This free event will feature new works from thirteen emerging choreographers. The outdoor Solar 1 performance stage is located at the northern edge of Stuyvesant Cove at E. 23 rd and the East River, adjacent to its green energy arts & education center.

Bursting forth in a colorful, crocheted panoply of loopy "kelps", curlicue "corals," and fringy "anemones," this wooly homage to Earth's endangered coral reefs is a beautiful marriage of traditional arts & crafts and hyperbolic geometry. This exhibition, featuring The New York Reef and The Chicago Reef, raises awareness about these disappearing marine treasures.

The New York Reef has been made under the auspices of the New York Crochet Guild, Harlem Knitting Circle and World Financial Center In The Loop.
The Chicago Reef generously lent by the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and the over 100 passionate Chicagoans who contributed to its creation.

Friends of the Hudson River Park - Clean Sanctuary Campaign 7/26/08
The “Clean Sanctuary Campaign” has been created help care for the 400+ acres of water in Hudson River Park's Estuarine Sanctuary by removing debris from the river, as floatables and flotsam arrive daily with the tide and through thirty combined sewage outfalls that discharge into the river on rainy days.
This cleanup will take place at the Gansevoort Peninsula just south of 14th Street Friends will provide water, coffee and donuts to participating volunteers. Volunteers must be 18 years of age, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Sturdy footwear with deep treads, and long pants required. Be sure to come prepared for the weather.

Yee-haw! It's Country Hoe Down time - Farm Sanctuary - 8/2-3
Have a rootin' tootin' time at Farm Sanctuary's New York Shelter in Watkins Glen, and make a difference in the lives of our farm animal friends by volunteering at our annual Country Hoe Down. An exciting weekend featuring informative and inspiring speakers and workshops, fun on the farm with rescued animals, vegan food, and lively entertainment, the Hoe Down held August 2 and 3 is one event that activists and animal lovers won't want to miss!
To make this year's Hoe Down a great success for farm animals and the people who care for them, we are in need of volunteers, on both Saturday and Sunday, to assist with meals, registration, set-up and clean up, dinner, and more. Event registration will be waived and meals will be provided for volunteers. Just as mankind's activity is having an impact on our natural environment, so to, do we see rapid changes in our “food environment”, changes for which we are ill prepared. Lou Harson, an experienced psychotherapist and holistic health counselor, will provide information about the parallel threats to our well-being and that of our precious planet, as well as some key guidelines for good nutrition. His talk will include a cooking demonstration.
Try out some new, easy to prepare recipes that will promote your health. Light refreshments will be served.
Advanced registration is required. Everyone that registers will be entered into a raffle to receive a free copy of the book “Greens Glorious Greens!”
